Smile!

What is a smile? According to the dictionary, it's "a pleasant expression." Isn't that what we call the expression in which our lips arch back gracefully and our eyes lighten up at something that has made us happy?

Why do we smile? The reason most people say that they smile is because they are happy. Other times, they smile to show their pleasure at something that has amused or entertained them. For me,I always try to smile. I smile not only when I'm happy, but even when I'm content. Sometimes, even if I feel on the verge of tears I fight it off and try to think of something happy that will make me smile. If nothing comes to mind,I just smile.

What does a smile mean? Smiles are symbolic for happiness, aren't they? They also stand for innocence. Sometimes,it's sad to see that adults don't smile, and hear them say that only children can do it. I don't believe that. Smiles are those universal kind of things that doesn't require any words to explain.

A smile is a smile. It means what it does. It's a warm type of gesture that shows that you're trying. Trying what? Trying to be happy, trying to appreciate, trying to show gratitude, trying to show your satisfaction, trying to live with no regrets. We don't need a happy life full of extravagant things to make us content enough to smile, all we need is just an attitude that knows that it's all right to smile no matter what the situation is.

Obviously, since people approach things differently and evolve emotions at different rates, it can't be expected to be able to change over-night into a sort of smiling machine 24/7. God didn't make people to be perfect. But that's all right, because it always gives us another chance to try. Seeing as to how there isn't a set way to be the happiest you can be, then the sky is the limit when it comes to showing how often you're content with a smile.

As for me,all I can do right now is smile whenever someone speaks to me, unless the situation calls for otherwise (serious conversation type of things). One day, I want to just be able to walk the halls all by myself with none of my friends supporting me, and simply walk the whole wing with a smile on my face. I just want to be able to do that, even if I don't know half of the people in that wing. It's enough to know that I was able to do so, assuming that I'll ever work up enough courage to carry it out. But such is life: it has it's ups and downs. But that's what makes life fun. When we experience the heights of the day, smile! And when you feel as if you reach the lowest of the lows and can't do anything about it, you still can turn everything around. All you need to do is just, Smile!
