When Robert Frost said "...way leads on to way..." in"The Road Not Taken", he was correct. Once a choice has been made, it is hard to come back and change it. Very few decisions are able to be revoked. Also, once one choice has been made, it leads to another, and yet another, until it becomes a tangled web of choices. Most people do not understand that once they have chosen, it is impossible to change it, because it can be hard to find their way back.
Those that don't understand this continually stumble on in life, trying to fix past mistakes. What they don't realize is that it is virtually impossible to fix something once you have made what you consider a "wrong" decision. All that can be done is make another decision that will counter-act the wrong one, thus bringing you back to your starting point, more or less. Just like forces, if the decisions come from opposite directions and are somewhat balanced, then they will negate one another and everything will be brought to a standstill.
The trick most likely is that in order to not have to face the hassle of having to go back and try to change or counter past decisions, one must think it through and consider all the consequences before choosing. That way, one is less prone to make a mistake and choose the wrong choice.
